We all know that SEO has a huge amount of ranking factors. Header tags are common thing for businesses tend to miss out header tags in their blogs.

It’s actually one of the easiest factors to use and it provides structure and context for your articles.

In order for your articles to rank higher, you’ll need to implement these practices for your SEO.

1. How To Use Header Tags for Structure

As I previously said, one of the main purposes of header tags are structure and context. It gives the reader a clear visual of the information included.

By giving each paragraphs a header title, it helps the reader to digest the topics of the blog.

Well heres an example below which will explain header tag structure clearer!

If your still a little confused here is some useful information:

  • H1’s are used for the main title of the blog
  • H2’s title each section and summarise the main topics
  • H3 – H6 are the sub titles which explain more information on the main topics

2. Include Your Keywords

Now that you know a little bit more about header tags, you need to understand the reasons why we use them.

Google loves to pay attention to the titles of your blog. In fact using keywords in the titles can help Google push your rankings up for those relevant terms.

However in practice, you must make sure that it naturally flows, over using keywords can effect your rankings as well.

Overall make sure its readable any user who visits your article, then optimise it for Google.

3. Only Use One H1 Tag

Many experts weren’t even sure if using more H1 tags would benefit their SEO or ruin it.

However this was covered by ‘John’ (Google web master and analyst) who answered this myth.

However it doesn’t mean you should over use H1 Tags.

This goes back to our early statement that H1 Tags are used as the main title for the reader. So abusing this could make your websites SEO a little out of control.

4. Optimise for Featured Snippets

An area where header tags seem to make the most impact are Googles featured snippets.

  • Featured snippets can be achieved by questions or long tail key phrases in the title tags
  • Using bulleted number lists or paragraph information will be selected for the snippet underneath.

For example, when we search “What is the H1 Tag used for?” an article by reliablesoft.net appears.

It’s showing us a snippet of information, highlighting key terms in bold which may answer your question.

Hopefully this gives you an insight into how to use header tags in your business blogs or articles.
